Magnate: now launching November 2019
Many thanks again for signing-up to our Kickstarter mailing list! It's time for an update.
Back in April, I had hoped we would be live in September. But we've taken the difficult descision to push back the date a little further.
A new launch date

As I've said before, this is a labour of love for me so I am determined to get it right, rather than get it fast.

I don't want to "crunch" the team and it's important that quality is top notch. The art, gameplay and rulebook (so so much blind testing! more on that later...) have all seen a lot  of development - especially art.

Even more importantly, the continued uncertainty around Brexit has forced us to re-work our approach to the budgeting side of the campaign so we can absorb potential issues. This means re-thinking our plans across production, finance and campaign configuration - to name only a few areas.
There's a lot to update you on...

Since my last email we:

1) Blind tested our rulebook extensively - We found a ton of ways to express the same rules better. It's been painful at times, but always invaluable - and we'll continue this right until our rulebook goes to press.

2) Finalised the 3D models - Just look at them! We liked the original models but we think these are still a big improvement.

3) Created a brand spanking new piece of cover art - which you saw at the top of the email.

4) Overhauled the graphic design of the entire game - just some examples:

5) Took Magnate to the UK Games Expo where it consistently ranked in the top 30 most anticipated games of the whole show (check out its entry below on Tabletop Together). Every game above it was by established publisher with a string of hits or had already funded very strongly on Kickstarter!

5) secured interest and coverage from a lot of talented and high profile reviewers. When they publish their reviews, I think you'll see why I feel so lucky that they've taken the time to review this game. In the meantime, check out this already published corker from Tabletop Games Blog. You'll see why I was bowled over by this:

"I can’t say enough how much I’m impressed by this game. James Naylor and the team have really put in a lot of effort and huge amounts of time playtesting the game to make it the best game it can be. Magnate: The First City will start a new trend of city-building games, but we’ll have to see if any of them will reach the level of excitement, enjoyment and entertainment that Magnate creates. The bar has been set very high indeed." Read more here.

6) Extensively playtested Magnate's "AI mode" - A smart automa / cardboard AI which stands in for a human at any player count. It interacts with players using all the same mechanics a person can. Not *just* a solo mode!

7) (just on Friday) assembled the KS reviewer prototype for the first time! Check out all that lovely new design!

Please rate us on BGG

If you've played Magnate with us I would be *so* grateful if you could rate Magnate on BGG - if you feel comfortable doing so. This really helps other people have the confidence that they're going to get a well designed game, not just an attractive art piece when the KS launches.
Follow us for updates!
I don’t want to spam you. We promised you that this list is only for notifying you about the launch.  But you can find out more on Twitter, BGG, Instagram and Facebook
Thank you so much for your interest in Magnate: The First City. I can’t wait to share this game with you!

All the best,

James Naylor
