Dear Readers,

Happy December! Winter solstice, the holiday season, the end of one year and the beginning of another—they’re all upon us.
One of the best ways to wrap up a year is to see your book on one of those “best books of 2018” lists, and I was so happy to see THE GIRLS IN THE PICTURE included in Real Simple’s year-end roundup.  If you haven’t read this story about an empowering female friendship that was responsible for creating Hollywood as we know it, don’t worry!  The paperback release is just around the corner, on January 22.

The new year will also bring you the chance to be one of the first people to read my next book, THE MISTRESS OF THE RITZ!
Indiebound Amazon Barnes & Noble Books-A-MillioniTunes Powells Hudson Google
A captivating novel based on the story of the extraordinary real-life American woman who secretly worked for the French Resistance during World War II—while playing hostess to the invading Germans at the iconic Hôtel Ritz in Paris.
While THE MISTRESS OF THE RITZ won’t be out until May (although it’s available for preorder, you can enter to get one of the advance copies, signed by me, after the holidays).
I need to rest up during the holidays, because in January I’ll be traveling for the paperback release of THE GIRLS IN THE PICTURE. Will I be coming to a city near you?

As I’m resting up, I’m indulging in some family traditions.  We have to watch IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE on Christmas Eve.  I have to make sugar cookies for my sons—in fact, I already have, and one batch is on its way to Denver where my youngest lives.  Here’s our favorite recipe; I am not allowed to change it, and my oldest son told me the other day I need to laminate the recipe and include it in my will!  I didn’t tell him it’s available online; I wanted him to think I made it all up myself. But this is the same recipe I cut out of a magazine way back in 1995.

I hope everyone has a chance to rest up, enjoy friends and family—and enjoy a good book in front of the fire.  I’ll see everyone in the new year!

Love,

Melanie
