It has been a busy week with the start of Joe's junior clinics and the second week of playing programs. It looked like a 4th of July celebration yesterday for the 9 am junior clinic, with parents and families bringing their chairs and umbrellas to watch their children taking lessons from Joe and Kathleen. Everyone was careful to observe social distancing so family gatherings were spaced out over the club grounds. Quite festive!
Blind Draw Mixed Doubles- July 11
We're still looking for entries for our Blind Draw Mixed Doubles Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, July 11 starting at 9 am. We're almost filled on the men's side, but there are several spots available for women. Sign up on the bulletin board at the club or let me know by return email if you want to play.
This is a fun social event, where your partner is chosen at random and you play with him/her for the morning. It's a round robin format, so you get to play at least three times. The top performers in the various groups get to move on to the semifinals. There are prizes for the finalists.
We will do the pairings in advance, and let you know which court you will start on. If you want to warm up, please arrive earlier than 8:45 am. The event is free for members. There is a $10 charge for any guests you would like to invite. We will use all the courts for this year's event, so preliminary matches should be played by 11 am, with the playoffs lasting another hour. We will not be providing food this year, so bring your own refreshments.
The tournament will be limited to the first 12 men and and first 12 women that sign up.
Stroke of the Week Wednesday 6 pm
We had our first Stroke of the Week on Wednesday with full attendance. This weekly program is free and open to all Adult STC members and features an hour long group lesson taught by STC Club Pro Joe McNulty and his assistant at 6 pm, followed by organized round robin play. This is a great way to improve your game and meet new players!
This year we are doing it differently in light of the social distancing guidelines. If you want to participate, you will have to reserve a spot with Kathleen McKenna (firstname.lastname@example.org or call 570-906-0935). There will be 6 students with an instructor on two courts, so the first 12 students who respond will be able to participate. Sign up today!
