Lasse Paakkola is the new Managing Director of Aplicom

Lasse is a co-founder of Aplicom and has operated earlier as the Sales and Marketing Director of the company.

“I am originally a mechanical engineer, but I have worked my entire career in sales and marketing and management of technology companies. My passion is to work with people, to bring products and customer needs together. There is no “business to business”. It is always “business people to business people”.

My path in technology industry started at the computer division of Nokia. I joined Aplicom as a co-founder in early 1995, and spent the following ten years building up the product management, marketing and sales of the company. Under those years, we did some true pioneering work, supplying mobile data terminals and software for early adopters, like Daimler Fleetboard, ADAC and Mannesmann Autocom.

After that, I spent five years managing an agro electronics company, and the last eight years before returning to Aplicom, I was in charge of sales and marketing of a Finnish technology company, supplying optical in-line measurement systems for the automotive industry.

In November 2018, I joined Aplicom again, and feel enthusiastic to be part of this great team again!”

Vesa Helkkula continues working on the board.

“I am convinced that the co-operation with our partners under the leadership of Lasse will only be strengthened”, says Vesa.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) includes the ability to transmit the proper date and time to a receiver by supplying the receiver with the current week and the current number of seconds into the week. This allows the receiver to translate the date and time into a more typical format – day, month, year, and time of day.

However, the week number is encoded into the data stream by a 10-bit field.  A binary 10-bit word can represent a maximum of 1,024 weeks, which is approximately 19.7 years.

GPS week zero started in January 1980 and the 1024 weeks counter ran out and rolled over on August 21, 1999. The week counter then reset to zero, and it has been recounting ever since. The next time the counter will reach week 1023 and rollover to zero is on April 6, 2019.

It is important that GPS receivers operate without any disruptions during this transition and also come up and navigate correctly if powered off during the transition and then powered on after the roll over occurred.

All Aplicom A-series products (A1, A9, A11) will operate normally during and after the GPS week rollover.

Controlling 3PAD leds separately, without button control

One useful feature with 3PAD is, that there is a possibility to control led states separately through configuration. This way leds can be used to indicate more than one ON/OFF-status at the same time.  This might be very handy, if for example customer needs to monitor many work phases simultaneously.
In configuration this could be achieved by:

1. Selecting “DlkpType” as:

"5" - 3PAD with button LEDs separated and controlled by SW.

"6" - 3PAD with button LEDs separated and controlled by SW. 1Wire LED  output not used by 3PAD.

2. Selecting “DlkpMode” as:

"8" - Normal 3PAD mode with flags reserved for 3PAD led states.

3. Create required events and corresponding actions using led-flags to monitor led states according to your needs.

Note also, that separate 3PAD red square and green triangle leds are normally separately controllable through configuration according to your needs.
