The last few months have been a busy time for the WSI, having hosted both the annual WSTNet Web Science Summer School, and our first AI for Future Society Week. In addition, we jointly hosted, together with the University of Southampton Library, a talk by Kate Zwaard and Dr Colleen Shogan from the US Library of Congress.
It is therefore a great time to welcome a new Director to our team, Professor Pauline Leonard, who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of Sociology.
We are not letting the pace drop either, as we look forward to our upcoming Distinguished Lecture with Professor Philip Howard from the Oxford Internet Institute. And we are pleased to announce that the WSI will be hosting the annual ACM Web Science Conference here in Southampton, on 7
th-10
th July, 2020.
Meanwhile, at our Centre for Doctoral Training, five of our iPhD Web Science students were awarded their Doctorates at this year’s Summer Graduation, and we wish them every success in their future careers.
We hope you enjoy this newsletter and look forward to keeping you up to date with the WSI and Turing at Southampton.
Best wishes
Wendy
