"Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God."
~ 1 Peter 1.22-23
This Sunday we will hear from 1 Peter 1.22-25. I encourage you to read and reflect on 1 Peter 1.13-25 prior to our time together on Sunday. We will also celebrate the feast of the Lord's Supper together, so I encourage you to prepare in heart and mind for that time of fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ and our Lord.
Upcoming Events and Opportunities:

Consistory Meeting:
The consistory will meet on Thursday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m.

Kids' Night Out:
Our next Kids' Night Out is on Saturday, November 17. Invite neighbors, friends, co-workers, extended family, and please talk to Janet Crawford if you would like to help out!

Thanksgiving Basket Reverse Offering:
Remember to bring items for the Thanksgiving baskets by Sunday, November 18.
Faith Formation Opportunities:

We will continue our intergenerational faith formation class at 6:00 p.m. at the church building this Sunday (November 11). We will focus on the phrase "He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; in fact, all things must work together for my salvation" from the big (and beautiful) first question and answer of the Heidelberg Catechism. The class is designed to be accessible to everyone roughly middle school (or even upper-elementary) through adulthood. If you missed the first two classes, don't hesitate to join us for future classes. We will begin with a short time of fellowship and light snacks and then proceed with the class. The remaining schedule for 2018 will be: November 11, and December 9. (We will not meet on November 25 due to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend).

Next Sunday (November 18) the teens will meet at 6:00 p.m. to continue their study, "Living Your Faith in a Messed Up World: a Look at the Contemporary Testimony."

That we might better pray for one another and God's world:

We pray for our teens and adult drivers as they attend the Reverb youth event tonight (and into the early hours of tomorrow morning!). Pray for safety as they travel, for edifying fellowship, and God's joyful presence, especially for friends who don't know our Lord.
We pray for Robin and Joel Vermaat and Robin's extended family as they mourn the passing of Robin's father.
We pray for the Vos' extended family as they mourn the passing of Al and Joyce's nephew in a farm accident last week.
We give thanks that Ann de Jager got as good a report as she could have hoped from the tests she had done earlier this week and for the initial hope that she won't have to undergo chemo! I encourage you to pray for continued healing, for continued wisdom for her doctors, and for peace for Ann and George and the family.
We continue to pray for healing and health for: Ethan Stocum, Frank Lockwood, Daryl Whitacre, Peter DeYoung, Beth Blake, and Amy Beardsley.

We pray for the many displaced people throughout the world, and especially that God's people, the Church, in the power of the Holy Spirit, would lead the way in addressing and attacking the root causes of displacement, whether poverty, war, or other forms of injustice.

We pray for friends
and family of Valley members:
for healing for: Marcus Doller's mother; Mike Flynn's mother; David Derzanovich's brother-in-law Tim; for Cindy and the family of her friend Tamara, who passed away unexpectedly; the de Jagers’ grand-nephew, Cole, who is undergoing treatment for leukemia; for Martheen Griffioen as she battles cancer; Jim and Becky Stocum's friend Eric who is battling brain cancer; for the Monroes’ nephew, Joshua, and for peace for their extended family in Colorado; for Adam Derzanovich; for Alistair Krempel.
