"In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed."
~ 1 Peter 1.6-7
We recently asked "Who am I?" and heard Peter's answer: "God's elect, exiles scattered. . ." Perhaps the appropriate questions this Sunday are: "What in the world is going on?" and "How does all of this fit in to God's great plan?" In 1 Peter 1.6-12 Peter continues to work out the meaning of what's going on in the lives of God's elect exiles who are scattered (and persecuted) through Asia and how it fits into God's ultimate plans. And though it might be hard to believe it from the thick mists and shadows of "all kinds of trials," it's ultimately a hopeful and joyous story of salvation that is unfolding and of which God has mercifully made us a part. While we will focus on 1 Peter 1.6-12, I encourage you to read and reflect on 1 Peter 1.3-12 prior to our time tomorrow.
We will also celebrate God's provision of Spirit-gifted leadership within the church as we ordain and install new officebearers during the service of worship tomorrow morning.
Upcoming Events and Opportunities:

Faith Formation Opportunities
:
Tomorrow evening (October 14), we will kick off our intergenerational faith formation class at 6:00 p.m. at the church building. For the first four sessions of the intergenerational class we will carefully explore the big (and beautiful) first question and answer of the Heidelberg Catechism together. The class is designed to be accessible to everyone roughly middle school (or even upper-elementary) through adulthood. We will begin with a short time of fellowship and light snacks and then proceed with the class. These intergenerational classes will be held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month.

The teens will continue to meet on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month for faith formation classes.
Care Boxes for College
and Military Young Adults
:
The Fellowship Team is preparing care boxes for our college and military young adults in the room behind the sanctuary. There are fourteen boxes total, and you are encouraged to bring care box contents (snacks, little gifts, etc.), or you can give a monetary donation to contribute to the cost of shipping. The Fellowship Team would like to ship the boxes in the next week or two, so please make your contributions soon.
Special Offering for World Renew's Global Disaster Relief Work:
Tomorrow morning (October 14) we will have an opportunity to give a special offering that will contribute to World Renew's global disaster relief work in light of the recent disasters around the world: Hurricane Michael, Hurricane Florence, Typhoon Mangkhut, the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia, and the earthquake in Haiti.
