Nearly there folks !!
This is just a brief update on our position so far and a timetable of next steps:
We have successfully engaged a franchisee for the shop. Philip Cafolla will be joining us and his contract begins Wednesday 01.07.2020 but is attempting to get up and running a little earlier. We wish Philip all the best in this next chapter. He has a solid background as an instructor and has experience running other businesses successfully. He is aiming to have a fully stocked shop and has a lot of contacts for obtaining merchandise at extremely competitive prices. He has great plans plus he is also aiming to organise open competitions during the week once he gets up and running.
We have just been advised social distancing has been reduced to 1 metre with mitigations , we have a large clubhouse plus the outside patio area so we will be able to accommodate everyone. The bar/restaurant will be opening Friday 03.07.2020 .We intend to open for as long as possible but it is pretty much dependent on members/visitors support so please try if possible to support your club also our catering franchise which was doing so well prior to lockdown and was badly hit with the closure. The Bar / restaurant opening hours will initially be published on a week to week basis on the website, facebook and club notices .
I must thank the volunteers who have been operating as starters plus you as members who have adhered to all the conditions we were required to operate because of COVID-19 .
From Monday 29.06.2020 tee times will reduce to 10 minute intervals. Booking from then on (during the week) can be made for 7 days no limits on number of games. Booking for weekends has been changed to Thursday same procedure at 6.00pm and at 9.00pm a second booking can be made . Buggies will be available when the shop opens which at the latest will be Wednesday 01.07.2020. Please bear with us re the booking system it will settle down. Every other club in the country operates a similar system most with a lot more members than us. It would be more beneficial if one person is nominated to book the group as if all 4 do it multiplied by 80 odd times can cause the system to temporarily crash.
Competitions will start Saturday 04.07.2020 and Sunday 05.07.2020 from the white tees (a separate competition from greens has been suggested but depends on demand ),until further notice the competition will be over both days (the club rule you can’t play on Saturday without entering the competition has been suspended ).
The first competition will be stableford and it will be FREE to enter. Thank you for your patience most of the delays were outside our control and without the shop it was just going to be extremely challenging to get them started earlier. The handicap committee has already sent out details for entering scores online. Please ENSURE you are registered on master scoreboard , if not your score wont count .Enter your gross score (number of shots to get the ball into the hole ). Retain your card until results are announced in case of queries. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the rules re provisional balls etc. Just a reminder, bunkers remain as Ground Under Repair (GUR).
Finally I think it has been superb how you have reacted to adversity in true Scrabo style! I still don’t think we have lost any members plus I don’t think the virus has affected any member or their close family. The course is looking superb ! Its been a tough few months but we are returning to some semblance of normality , it will be great to get into the clubhouse. I am looking forward to meeting everyone again and I will be happy to buy you a drink so don’t be shy.
