Dear Families,
Welcome to Dexter Southfield! We are elated you have chosen our School and community for the next step in your student’s educational journey. At Dexter Southfield, middle school is a time of mindful exploration. Your student is about to embark on an experience that will deliberately guide the development of their courage, independence, self-advocacy, and critical thinking.
Before we begin our time together, there are several business matters that need your attention. There will also be opportunities to connect with other Dexter Southfield community members. The below list overviews information you can anticipate receiving from the School in the coming weeks and months.
- Welcome Events: To assist in your family's transition to Dexter Southfield, I encourage you to join us for our spring virtual orientation events:

Enrollment Forms: Our 2022-2023 enrollment forms cover various topics, including athletics and arts selection, family contact information, emergency contacts, transportation, and Parents Association interest. Please look for an email from our Communication Office next week. Your timely completion of these forms is greatly appreciated.

Resource Guides: In mid-May, you will receive a copy of our Middle School Resource Guide, including details on the dress code, technology needs, and other helpful information about the middle school experience.
- Summer Work: In late May, details of required summer academic work will be shared. This work will include our division-wide summer reading book, grade-level reading, and details on our math refresher work. Your child will also receive their Dexter Southfield email address at this time, allowing for easy access to Savvas, our online math textbook.
Finally, I invite you to schedule a time for you and your student to meet with me 1:1. We will review your student's academic schedule (for meetings scheduled after July 15) and locate their homeroom classroom. Throughout the late spring and summer, you will also receive correspondence from your student’s advisor and their middle school “buddy."
