This is a potluck, too, and all our dishes should be whole food plant-based with no added oil. If you need help with ideas of what to bring, or recipes, you'll find plenty of ideas here! Oh, and bring your recipe (or at least a list of ingredients) with you. We'll have plastic covers for them all.

Happy Harvesting Season to All!

It is the time of year when we see some of the best produce at the farmers markets. In September, pumpkins are ripening in the fields. This season's crops of apples and pears arrive in the produce departments at the local grocery stores. The colors and smells of sun-ripened fruits and vegetables are so vibrant they can almost overwhelm the senses.

September (and all year round, really) is also a time to be aware that there are many without enough healthy foods to eat. As we start the slide into the holiday feasting season, we are reminded that, yes, malnutrition exists in the US. Here, however, it doesn't look like starving children with swollen bellies and sunken eyes, the way it looks in some war-torn or drought-stricken countries. In the United States, malnutrition manifests itself as obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Here, malnutrition can be the result of conscious choice or financial, emotional, physical, or even geographical circumstances.   (read more...)

Think a delicious, healthy alternative to traditional burgers is Beyond your reach, or an Impossible dream? Think again!

Media is buzzing about "meat alternatives," and while they do offer the benefits of being better for the environment and certainly animal agriculture, their impact on human health leaves much to be desired. Read more about that here.

But take heart. That's no reason not to enjoy a great burger! Here is one of our very favorites! (adapted from VeganRicha)
Dr Steven Lome and PBNM members took a stand in front of McDonald's corporate headquarters in Chicago to ask them to break up with bacon! We were proud to support PCRM in letting McDonald's and passers by know that bacon, and other processed meats, are now known to cause cancer! Check out Dr Lome's brief message - loud and clear - that not only is this something we should not be eating, we certainly should not be feeding this food to our children.
PBNM Proudly Participated in PCRM's - Kickstart Chicago

What a phenomenal event this was! This PCRM event in Chicago was a kickstart to introduce the powerful benefits of plant-based nutrition to heal and to make that information available to as many people as possible.

In addition to the powerful presentation given by Dr Steven Lome, we were honored also that two of our Board of Directors members were also asked to speak. Shown here with PCRM President, Dr Neal Barnard, are, left to right, Stefanie Ignoffo and Sherry Shrallow. Stefanie gave a lively cooking demo and shared her family's journey (resulting in 250 collective pounds lost, along with many health benefits) and Sherry shared her harrowing near-fatal heart attack and how plant-based nutrition both saved and changed her life.

Stop By and Bring Your Friends!

We will be joining with others concerned about healthy nutrition, the environment, and animal welfare and to help spread the word! Our focus, of course, is on the powerful benefits of whole food plant-based nutrition. We're proud of that focus, and equally proud that it aligns so well with other critical issues of our day - the climate crisis, environmental protection, animal welfare, and world hunger!

Stop by our booth (we will be indoors) to say hi, and by all means bring your friends and family! We want to meet them, too!

September 16 turned out to be a fabulous day! It marked the global release of the amazing documentary film, Game Changers, and groups of people met throughout the area to watch. Over 50 gathered before the movie at the Lincolnshire theater for a pre-release potluck which was amazing!!! The gathering was held at the beautiful 444Social in Lincolnshire, right next door to the theater. Looking for a fabulous rental home? We highly recommend you check them out!
