October, 2018

Its Cricket time! All our teams have worked hard in the pre-season training preparing for the long season ahead. Here is the list of matches for Round 1:
President's Welcome
Dear Blacks,
A very warm welcome to the new season to our players, especially the new players, many of whom are international students of the University; volunteers; Centurion Club and Foundation members; sponsors and supporters.
It’s going to be a big season ahead!
It all kicks off tomorrow at Beautiful University Oval (BUO #1), in a One Day Grand Final rematch against Port Adelaide. The first Grade skippered by Ben Wakim will gleefully welcome in form Redback, Jake Weatherald and Nick Winter into the line up.
There will be no better place to watch the lads than from the Long Room bar, which will be open from 3pm. A number of club members, current and past players will be in attendance, I hope you can pop in too. Good luck to the Men's sides on Saturday and the women out at Northern Districts on Sunday. The sides look strong and enjoy your time at the AUCC.

Uni you Beauty

AUCC OVER 50s Cricket - 2018/19

Veterans cricket has been around for a few years and is continuing to increase in popularity. In 2017/18 the Blacks entered a side in the inaugural Over 50s SA Cricket competition. Many past (and a few current) players made an appearance and everyone had a great time playing in a competitive but friendly environment. It was great to see a number of players return to the club after many years and resume old friendships and forge new ones. The five team competition plays 40 overs a side games on Sundays (the first game is on October 21st), with nine games scheduled this season. The rules and restrictions are essentially the same as any other game of cricket.
There are also opportunities to represent your state and country in Over 50s cricket, and the Blacks have already supplied a number of state and national representatives. To qualify as an Over 50s player, you must be born in 1969 or earlier. However, we are also allowed to play two 'juniors' (born between 1970-74) If you want to know more or are interested in playing, please contact Tim Pellen at or on 0422502016

As a past-player or ‘friend of the Blacks’ you can offer your support by becoming a Centurion Club Member.  Collectively you can make a big difference to the club if everyone gets on board.

Joining is simple and will take only a couple of minutes.

The first social function is wine tasting and Cellar Door experience at Beautiful University Oval, whilst watching a great days cricket.  Confirmed dates will follow.

Thanks Rob

Q&A with captain Wakim
When did you start playing cricket?
- Have played ever since I can remember – about 5 I think.

Your favourite player and cricketing idol?
– Kane Williamson

When did you start playing for AUCC?
– First season for the blacks was 2016/2017

How is it to play at the AUCC?
- Fantastic! Premier Grade Cricket Club of the year in 2018 – what more could you ask!?

How’s AUCC special for you?
- I think AUCC sets itself apart from other clubs as there is a HUGE focus on player development at every level. Whatever tools a player needs to improve and play a level higher than they ever have is at their disposal – if they want it.

Best moment at cricket
-  Playing at Adelaide Oval in the T20 GF. Wasn’t the result we wanted but awesome to play on such an historic Oval.

Best moment with AUCC
– the whole of last season. Being part of a successful team that is consistently winning games is awesome so hopefully we can continue that this year and grab some silverware along the way.

Funniest moment at AUCC
– Any time spent in the Change rooms when its raining.

Thoughts on leading the team
– Regardless of being the Captain I really enjoy setting an example for the team. Hopefully I am doing a good job at that and can impart a bit of what I’ve learnt after playing for 20+ years to others.

What does “blacks” mean to you?
– The inclusive culture at the Blacks and desire for every player to improve means I can comfortably say it’s the most enjoyable cricket I have every played and one where I feel I have developed as both a player and a person.

Expectation from AUCC this season
- to enjoy the game, develop as a person and as a player and to take the game on .

Player to watch for this season
– I’ll pick 3 – Cam Edwards, Sam Kerber and Ben Ellis. All have worked very hard in the off-season and set for a good year.
