Anoka County Commissioner Scott Schulte Addresses Statewide Conference of County Officials

(St. Paul, MN)--- Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC) 2019 president and Anoka County Commissioner Scott Schulte delivered his ‘State of the Counties’ address on February 14 to nearly 300 county officials from across Minnesota who gathered in St. Paul last week for the association’s annual legislative conference.

“I believe state of our counties is stronger than ever because of the problem-solvers in this room,” Schulte said.  “Those of you who show up, engage, and make sure your constituents are represented in our work – you are what make our counties strong.”

“By working together, sharing good ideas, and coming together to promote effective public policy, we can begin to address the challenges facing our counties,” Schulte continued.  “We have the tools we need to do this through our Association of Minnesota Counties.”

Schulte’s speech concluded the two day conference, which focused on legislative issues facing Minnesota counties.  Gov. Tim Walz opened the conference by discussing his thoughts on a variety of county issues, including his support of roughly $30.5 million in new county program aid (CPA) and robust funding for improving our state’s transportation infrastructure, especially roads and bridges. Attendees then headed to the Capitol for meetings with legislators to discuss a wide variety of issues including combatting the opioid and substance abuse crisis, sustaining the health care access fund, expanding statewide broadband infrastructure, transportation funding and more.
