Old Farts
Tampa North Invite…

For Thursday, February 10th, 2022…

Old Farts...

We are headed to the Tampa North Aero Park (X39) on Thursday, February 10. I know we are a few days out, and the weather can change. That said… WX looks good right now with clear skies, cool temps and a light wind out of the north. The above photo is from our X39 visit last year. Old Fart Chuck Fox took a “Mom’s Club” under his wing. They were visiting the airport on a field trip. Chuck let several of the kids sit in his Cirrus and make motor noises!

I’ve been talking with our host, Keith Carver. Keith runs the FBO and his wife Lorie operates the Happy Hangar Cafe. They are delighted to hear we’re making a return visit. We were last there about this time last year. The cafe is open from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., serving breakfast all day. The pancakes literally hang over the edges of the plate!!! GREAT FOOD!

Please refer to the Google Earth images I have included. As you can see, things are a bit tight at X39. Keith will be on the radio, and there will likely be someone available to guide you to parking. Given the setup, it is especially important that we try to spread out our arrivals from breakfast “early birds” to a late lunch “lazybones.” Keith says he will try to move all tied down aircraft from the main ramp. As always, we will make it work!

Keith says his fuel prices are currently $4.50 cash and $4.70 credit card. He expects a delivery on Tuesday, but will try to hold the price through our Thursday visit. Keith also operates a 300 HP Stearman ride business from the field… if anyone is interested.

Here are some things you need to know…

There is just one runway… 14/32. It is 3,500’ by 50’ hard surface.

There is NO dedicated taxiway. If landing on 32 (likely), you will have to back-taxi on the runway to the FBO, parking and restaurant, all located at the southeast end.

If busy, roll out to the end of 32 and wait to taxi back in groups.

Runway 14 is RIGHT traffic. Runway 32 is LEFT traffic. CTAF/UNICOM is 123.05. Pattern Altitude 1,068’.

X39 lies within Tampa’s Mode C zone, but the floor of the Class B Airspace is 3,000’ over the airport. Lots of room.

That’s about it for now. I will likely post an update as Thursday draws near. Don’t let my comments intimidate you. We had lots of aircraft show up during our last Old Farts visit to X39, and everything went smoothly!

Keep the Shiny Side Up!

As a favor to a friend and neighbor, I am making an exception to my rule of not getting into marketing things in my posts. This friend leases a nice, dry tee-hangar at Pahokee (Palm Beach County Glades KPHK). He does not currently have a use for it, but does not want to give up the lease. He is willing to sub-lease for the $300 monthly rental. The hangar has a concrete floor, a 40’ hydro-lift door and electricity. Nice hangar! Contact me if you have an interest. I can put you in touch with my friend.
