Let me introduce you to our 1,000th member. I received the following email a couple days ago… “Hello Roger, I just met Russell DeDomin and he sent me info on your flying club. I would like to be added to the mailing list for your events. I have a C172 and would like to join in on the fun. I’m also a pilot for Southwest and I’m a retired Army helicopter pilot. Thank you, Tom Gasparolo”
PERFECT! Tom had the good fortune (I think) to be the 1,000th name on my MailChimp email list of “active” members. Wow! I took over the Old Farts Flying Club list about eight years ago. There were forty-some names on the list. The growth has strictly been word-of-mouth. Like Tom said… another pilot told him about us. Incredible!
Without tipping him off, I asked Tom to send me a photo… preferably with his plane. Along came the great shot of Tom at the left, his son Antonio in the pilot’s seat of the C172, and his friend Frederico in back. As a bonus, Tom sent along a pic of him in Korea, circa 1981. That’s Tom on the right, with a bad looking Cobra attack helicopter.
Tom lives in Weston and the C172 is based at KFXE. It is currently in the shop, having new avionics installed. Hope to see you at an Old Farts event soon, Tom!
Old Fart Hugo Terrosa owns Total AvioniX in Lantana (KLNA). Out of the blue, he offered a FREE weight and balance, as a door prize for me me to offer up at an event. I can’t think of a better “awardee” than our new member, Tom Gasparolo. A fresh weight and balance should come in handy when that new panel is done. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Tom. Winner, winner… chicken dinner!
