NEWSLETTER      September 2020
Welcome to the September VALIDATE newsletter, a look at our exciting plans for the rest of 2020, and an overview of some of our activities of the last few months in case you missed them.

The VALIDATE community continues to grow and we now have 394 members from 198 institutes in 53 countries, all working towards developing vaccines for tuberculosis, leishmaniasis, melioidosis and leprosy. We are an open network, welcoming new members from our research field, so do encourage your colleagues and collaborators to join.

Despite a global pandemic, members of VALIDATE were still able to meet online for a series of four very successful Summer Seminars. You can catch up on any you missed by logging on to WebLearn and then loading the Panopto folder.

You can also request access to the VALIDATE Seminar Google Drive Folder or click the on the video titles below.

Collaboration Week

From 12 to the 16 October, VALIDATE will be holding “Collaboration Week”, 5 days of activities aimed at providing advice on how to build research relationships and perhaps even form new collaborations across the VALIDATE Network.

Get Involved
You can support Collaboration Week in the following ways:

Take part in VALIDating, a fun service to help members form research collaborations across institutions, research focus, and continent - a bit like a dating site but rather than finding your soulmate you may find your next research partner. You can set up your profile, listing what you're looking for in a collaboration, by completing the VALIDating Profile Form - and during Collaboration Week you can look through the profiles to find your next ideal research partner.

Sign up for the Online Collaboration Workshop. On 13 October Prof Susanna Dunachie (University of Oxford) will be using her personal experience to talk about building successful collaborations, after which you will join fellow VALIDATE members in virtual break-out rooms to discuss how you might be able to work together in new research partnerships.

Get in touch and let us know about any Collaboration Success Stories, especially if you formed a partnership through VALIDATE -

Bioinformatician Support

Dr Mirvat Surakhy is the VALIDATE Bioinformatician and can offer VALIDATE members free bioinformatics and data analysis support.

Although Mirvat is based at the University of Oxford, any discussions with her are entirely confidential between you and Mirvat, so please do make the most of this valuable VALIDATE resource. You can contact Mirvat via email (
