World-Class riders and horses ready for show jumping's inaugural Fort Worth international competition

Olympic veterans and world-class show jumping riders and horses from nine countries will be at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, December 14-19 for the first-ever Fort Worth International Competition, culminating event of the 2021 Split Rock Jumping Tour (SRJT).

US Trail Running Conference head to Mukilteo, Washington in 2022

Active at Altitude, organizers of the US Trail Running Conference has announced that the tenth edition of the industry-leading Conference will be held in Snohomish County, Washington, in the city of Mukilteo, October 19 – 22, 2022. Snohomish County, located in northwest Washington State just 15 miles north of Seattle and 120 miles south of Vancouver, British Columbia, is nestled between the sparkling blue waters of the Salish Sea and the rugged, snow-capped peaks of the Cascade Mountains. This will be the first time in the event’s ten year history that the Pacific Northwest will play host to the Conference.

Kathy Nelson announced as new shared leader of Kansas City Sports Commission, Visit KC

In partnership with Mayor Quinton Lucas, the boards of the Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation and Visit KC announced today that industry veteran and local community leader Kathy Nelson will serve as the leader of both organizations, effective Jan. 1, 2022. Serving as the President & CEO of the KC Sports Commission and Foundation for the last 10 years, Nelson will now provide strategic oversight to both regional organizations in the newly expanded role, helping to generate economic development for the destination through meetings, conventions, sports and tourism.

Visit Wichita promotes within to make changes to sales, sports teams
Visit Wichita
Visit Wichita has promoted two of the organization’s existing team members to fulfill roles on the sales and sports teams, which work together to attract events, meetings and conferences to the city. Jessica Viramontez has been a member of the sales team for the past three years as a convention sales manager and is transitioning into the role of sports sales manager. Marisa Pechanec, who has been the organization’s convention sales coordinator since January 2020, is moving into Viramontez’s former role of convention sales manager. Filling the sales coordinator role is recently hired Jamie Seipel.

The Mobile Sports Authority reports sharply increased post-COVID results
The Mobile Sports Authority
The Mobile Sports Authority (MSA), the sports tourism agency for the City and County of Mobile, reported today the organization attracted, supported, and/or hosted 31 sports events during the recently completed fiscal year - FY2021 (October 1, 2020-September 30, 2021). Fiscal Year 2021, the first fiscal year post-Covid, MSA-hosted events generated an estimated $22.4 million for the Mobile area economy.

Eight-team high school basketball showcase to debut at Hammermill MLK Weekend

A new high school basketball showcase will debut at Gannon University's Hammermill Center Monday, January 17. The MLK Dream Invitational will feature non-traditional matchups between eight of the region’s best teams, all featuring college recruits. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Erie, to assist in their effort to provide affordable sporting programs for students of all grades.

Eastern Little League ballpark updated with Waco neighborhood grant program's surplus

A new Waco grant program’s leftover funding has paid for long overdue updates at the Waco Eastern Little League ballpark. Just under $50,000 went for repairs on the facility’s driveway and a new gravel parking lot, and another $9,900 went toward work on its bathrooms, a project that started in October and is nearly complete. Another $12,900 went toward refurbishing the pavilion at Oscar DuConge Park less than a mile away. The funding came from a new city program that offers neighborhood associations grants of up to $7,500 for small projects, beautification efforts, and neighborhood association events like parties and recruitment efforts.

Convention center board discusses logistical sports issues

The Carroll Convention Center board discussed the effects of sports tourism on its properties at its meeting, including taking up and putting down sports floors at the convention center and expo center and placing a more permanent structure where the Dome Pavilion is. Convention Center Executive Director Michelle Campbell told board members she wanted direction from them regarding priorities when it came to areas using sports flooring.
