Tennis Canada Summer Camp at Aviva Centre was held July 2-5, 2019.
Over 35 New Canadian youth, aged 8-13 years old, participated a fun-filled camp that included tennis activities, swimming and field games.  The campers had an incredible experience.  See all of the highlights below!
We couldn't wait to get to the courts each day!
We quickly learned to rally and count points!
Team play and team activities were a big theme of the camp.  Watch our Green Gators team cheer below!
Team "Green Gators" share their team cheer for the week!
We had a special visit from Daniel Nestor!
We came together with York University tennis camp for a Meet & Greet with tennis great, Daniel Nestor. Dan moved to Canada when he was 7 years old.  He has won 83 ATP titles, 8 Grand Slams AND an Olympic Gold Medal!
We had so many questions for Dan including, "Were you happy when you moved to Canada?" and "How many trophies have you won?"
Dan spent all afternoon with us including time on the court and off the court.  We had so much fun with him and loved cheering him on while he challenged one of our Camp Counselors in Ping Pong.
Dan took one more picture with us before it was time to catch our bus home
We got a surprise gift at the end of the week! It included Camp Tshirts and Rogers Cup tickets.  We also got to keep our racquets!
The best part is that the fun isn't over!
We get 6 more weeks of programming at Thorncliffe Park Community Tennis Club and the courts are right in our neighbourhood! We also get a free membership to the club so that we can go and play any time this summer.  Now that we have our racquets, a place to play and friends to play with, we can have fun with tennis all summer long! THANK YOU!!
Special Thanks to all of our Partners - Together, we did something special!
Over 35 kids participated in the Tennis Canada Summer Camp at Aviva Centre.  30 kids registered through TNO - The Neighbourhood Organization in Thorncliffe Park.  The remaining kids registered through S.P.O.T. in the Jane-Finch neighbourhood.  Both organizations specialize in newcomer services.

Tennis Clubs of Canada operated the daily camp and their 5 enthusiastic instructors kept the fun going all week long.  Thorncliffe Park Community Tennis Club will run the 6-weeks of continuation programming that will include delivering Rogers Community Team Tennis.  Ryerson University's GSX Lab, headed by Asst Professor Laurel Walzak, gathered video and photography footage and will produce promotional content.

Special thanks to York University for sharing their swimming and field facilities with us and for bringing our camps together for a fun day with Dan Nestor.  Thank you also to Pizzaville for sponsoring a special Pizza Party lunch.  Thank you to Dan Nestor for generously sharing his time and making all of the kids feel so comfortable while he spent an entire afternoon with them.  Finally, thank you to the donor family who sponsored this camp to make it all possible.  The kids had a fantastic time!
