Dear iLEAD Agua Dulce parents/guardians:

The iLEAD Agua Dulce Charter has determined that it is necessary to close its site-based school(s) to prevent/contain the spread of COVID-19, in consultation with the Center for Disease Control (“CDC”), California Department of Education (“CDE”), and Department of Public Health (“DPH”). Parent Communication of this initial closure was sent out on March 13, 2020. This letter is a written prior notice by the iLEAD Agua Dulce Charter, pursuant to 34 CFR § 300.503, of the closure of site-based schools beginning Monday, March 16, 2020. During the pendency of the school closure, iLEAD Agua Dulce Charter will provide support and activities to all learners, including learners with disabilities. Student Support Staff Team members will support services for your learner via virtual learning access by phone or internet, as explained in our email updates on March 21. When possible and appropriate, online instruction services are being made available to your learner through a common platform, such as Zoom. 

iLEAD Agua Dulce is committed to helping learners learn in a way that makes them feel comfortable and confident. We are also committed to protecting the privacy of your learner’s learning, in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. If your learner participates in synchronous online instruction that includes audio and video capability, allowing a teacher and learners to be seen by other learners, educators and service providers will take steps to ensure your child’s learning is comfortable and private by avoiding disclosure of instructional activities to bystanders, and by reminding learners to find a quiet place for participation (though within adult supervision). 

Please note that some online instruction will involve small- and large-group learning, meaning other learners might be involved in the online instructional activities at the same time as your child. Your child’s voice or image might be heard and seen during instruction, unless your child opts out of this function of the online learning app.  

Educators and service providers have communicated with you their schedules for instruction and services. We encourage you to discuss with your child what he or she learned and practiced. However, in order to ensure educators and service providers are able to maintain service schedules, parent-educator/provider discussions should be scheduled outside of online instructional time. Impromptu discussions during or immediately before or after online instruction should be avoided. If you have concerns about your learner’s ability to participate effectively in online instruction, please let the service provider know as soon as possible.

The week of April 6-10, all our schools will also be closed and virtual instruction will not be offered for the Spring Break. During the closure, it is strongly recommended that learners stay home as much as possible, avoid gathering in public places, and practice physical distancing measures. All school events and meetings are canceled. 

A decision to reopen iLEAD Agua Dulce will be made in close consultation with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the Los Angeles County Office of Education during the closure. Please continue to check for updates and resources on our website, or contact the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health at (888) 700-9995 or publichealth.lacounty.gov.

In addition, we are making every effort to maintain some sense of normalcy for our learners. iLEAD Agua Dulce will continue to provide meals to learners as we have done in the past. Please see our website for more information on the meal distribution for all learners from our site.

Please understand that due to these unprecedented circumstances, the manner in which particular services required by your child’s IEP are provided may be affected. We continue to recognize the importance and safeguards of the Individualized Education Plan while adhering to the mandated closure. Should you wish to meet with the team virtually to discuss the plan as it relates to the virtual implementation, please reach out to the team case manager so they may set up a virtual meeting with you to discuss your learner’s needs. 

In making its determination, the iLEAD Agua Dulce Charter reviewed and considered the following:

  • Recommendations from the CDC
  • Recommendations from the CDE
  • Recommendations from the DPH
  • All other relevant information available to the Charter 

Finally, please be advised that the parents of a child with a disability have protection under the federal parental rights and procedural safeguards set forth in 34 C.F.R. Part 300.
